(Diptera: Stratiomyidae), were obtained from a laboratory colony located at the Research Institute of Organic Agriculture (FiBL, Switzerland). Newly hatched larvae used for the experiments were reared on chicken feed (Granngården Hönsfoder Start, metabolisable energy content = 11.2 MJ kg −1 , 80% moisture) for around 10 days.
